Gary Bergmiller

Lean Operations and Management System Expert

Gary Bergmiller is an accomplished Leader with 25 years of experience transforming organizations by building company-wide sustainable improvement cultures. He has functioned both as a consultant and internal Director, leading Performance Improvement and Engineering organizations. Gary’s experience includes positions with GE, Philips, Cox, Stanford Children’s Health, St. Joseph Healthcare, and Davita Medical Group leading the design and deployment of company-wide improvement systems. Gary holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and was invited by the founder of the Shingo Prize, Ross Robson, to conduct his doctoral research that proved synergies between Lean and Green manufacturing strategies amongst prestigious Shingo Prize wining organizations. Gary was also invited to conduct post-doctoral research and consulting with Toyota Way series author Dr. Jeffrey Liker. He has worked with Jeff Liker since 2006 applying Toyota Way principles in Healthcare, Manufacturing, Mining, Construction and Service industries. Gary takes a holistic approach by designing robust improvement systems tailored to each company’s unique culture aligned with their strategic objects. The core of his improvement system design focuses on developing leaders at all levels of the organization as problem solving coaches. These leaders then manage improvement activity with their teams as part of their normal management practices, rather than delegating Lean to the internal Performance Improvement organization. This approach puts the ownership of improvement in the hands of organizational leaders and assures a sustainable improvement culture where everyone, every day is improving processes in a structured way. Gary is a skilled public speaker, consultant, trainer, leadership coach, and project/engineering manager.
